You'll have to go into Network properties, then View Network
Connections. Edit the properties for TCP/IP v4 of your current
connection - If you already have a static IP address, then it's easy to
change - just alter it according the the specifications of your network.

-*Before you make ANY changes, make a note of what the current settings
are, just in case you bollox something up and you lose network and
internet connectivity.*-

If the address is dynamically assigned by your router via DHCP, you'll
have to consult with the router documentation on how to change the IP
range assigned to connecting clients.

just waiting for the insurance payout, so I can build a new machine.

Right-click on your Network Connection>Properties> select(single click)
TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 >then click the Properties button there.

Why do you want to change it?

I have this feeling he isn't interested in changing his IP on his local
subnet but rather that he wants to change his IP to the outside
world...probably got his IP banned from something would be my guess as to
why.
