It heavily depends on how you initially installed Windows Vista. If you
installed by performing an upgrade from XP and kept all of your programs and
files then unfortunately there is no way of returning to XP short of backing
up your data and formating the partition.

If you installed by booting from the disc or doing a clean install (and got
rid of all your Windows XP files) then it is very possible to return to XP
with all of your files intact.

You will notice in your C: drive a folder called windows.old. By restoring
this folder structure in MS DOS by overwriting the new Vista folders you can
restart back to how it used to be. If you need further intructions please ask.

No. You will need to back up your files and clean install XP.

but i can't install windows XP in my system.
after 1~2 minute when Insert XP pro disc and boot from cd,
i saw the BLUE SCREEN and stoped the install job.
Is it broken my hardware? Are there no influences on vista system?

windows.old should appear in the C:\ directory if you did a clean install
right over the old partition, if you did it any other way (Like formating
beforehand) it won't be there. Unfortunately that is the only way I know to
revert back to Windows XP.

Could anyone confirm if it is possible to simply import the directory
structure from someone else's XP machine to restore XP?
