Can I delete all those $NtUninstall...$ files on C:\Windows (for XP) or C:\winnt\ (for win2000)?

I guess these files are for restore original operation system or uninstall
updates. If I don't want uninstall those updates, can I delete these file to
save space?

Hello GZ,

Yes, but it's best to *move* them elsewhere or burn a CD, etc., if you're
running low on space. The folders/files are created when you install
updates, and you need them present there if you ever want to uninstall the
patches in question.

$NtServicePackUninstallNLSDownlevelMapping$
Created when you installed IE7.
If you delete them you will no longer be able to uninstall IE7

$NtServicePackUninstall$
Created when you install a service pack.
If you are currently using XP with SP2
then if you remove the folder you can no longer
uninstall SP2.

When and if you install SP3 this folder grow in size
as it will contain both SP2 and SP3 uninstall files.
If you have already installed SP3 then I would leave
this folder as is until you are certain that no bugs have
cropped up after installing SP3.
Note: Once you delete this folder you are stuck with SP3

Note: Do not delete the $hf_mig$ folder. This folder will be used by future
updates.

the files & directories are compressed by default, so the only way
you'll get more space back is by deleting them. check their dates and
see how far back you want to keep. i usually keep about a month. any
older and i delete them to reclaim space. if you haven't encountered
any problems by then, then it's safe to say the patches are stable.
