I have misplaced my Vista operating system disk, am I able to download a
copy of it from Micosoft website. I have the product key, as it is printed
on the rear of the CPU. A website link would be of great help if this is
possible. Many Thanks....Pete

If your Vista OS came with your computer you probably have to order one from
your computer vendor.

Hello Peter, Sorry to hear you lost your disk. The same happend to me
some 10 years ago and I have been making backup copies and keeping them
under lock and key ever since.

Technicaly no. You can not just go to a link on the web and download a
copy of Vista(that I know of). But there are avenues avalible where you
could.

First contact Microsoft and see what they say. Maybe you could tell
them the truth and give them your product key and (for a small fee) they
may(or may not) send you a replacement copy.

If they tell you no, well...your only other option may elevate you to
the level of Pirate in the eyes of some of the fine people here at the
Vista forums.

But on the other hand you do have a legitimate product key. Which is
really what matters. The disk is just the software, the key is the
license.

If Microsoft refuses to replace your disk, even after being blatently
honest. Send me a private message and I will point you in a safe
direction.

This may ruffle some feathers here, but as long as you have a legal
license I can keep you out of the torrents. And show you a clean
download. Others here already know about it.

Good luck.

Good luck to you.
For just a second I had thought that you were trying to obtain Vista
illegally
as I doubted that you could possibly loose anything as important as your
Vista DVD.
Then I remembered that I once left my car keys in the refrigerator!
(Don't ask)

So before you go out and get a new DVD have a quick look in the "fridge".
One other place to look is on top of your computer ! <G>

If the Product key was on the back of your computer, it was most likely an OEM installation.
Microsoft will not replace these copies. You have to get one from the computer manufacturers.
If they don't have copies for sale, try www.restoredisks.com

If you legally own Vista then you are legally entitled to get Vista from
whatever means. Just as long as you install the version of Vista that
shipped with your system. For those in doubt read a few law books. You
own the pc, and you own the Vista license (for that pc only). Microsoft
is under no obligation to provide you with a replacement, and in the
event that you lose a disk that was shipped with your pc neither is your
OEM. However, you could borrow a friends (that is the same as yours of
course), get it by other means, or even try calling up the computer
manufacturer and saying you didn't have a restore dvd in the box when
you bought it and you need one. (say you got a virus that you can't get
rid of that has deleted some system files). Tell them that contents on
your packaging claims that the box is supposed to ship with a restore
disc. Your's was absent? WTF! You need that disc! More then likely
you'll get one in a few days...for nothing.

No.

That means you have an OEM license for Vista. You'll need to contact
the computer's manufacturer to obtain a replacement DVD.
