For which function?
a) While composing a plain text message
b) While composing a HTML message
c) While reading a received plain text message
d) While reading a received HTML message.

For c) (plain text):
Tools, Options, Read, Fonts...

For d), you are pretty much at the mercy of what the originator of the HTML message specified. To change that font size, you'd
have to switch the format to plain text first. Then the c) solution applies.

That will only affect the a) and b) scenarios, not what the OP wanted.

I guess I didn't explain exactly what area I would like the fonts to be
larger. That area is, what you see when you first go to a newsgroup & you
see columns such as Subject, From, Sent ,etc. It is that area where the
font is very small on my computer. Any way to make those fonts larger ?
Thanks, Al

I don't think that it is possible to make those larger because
it's part of the program.

You should ask the ms programmers !

WLM does not provide an option (nor has it ever) to modify the center
pane's contents.

What were you using before (o/s, email client) ?

You CAN change the list font size through the OS "appearance" settings,
however all apps that use the changed setting will be affected. It's a
bit of trial & error to determine which setting controls the list display.
