Can I manually delete old PTR record?

Hi!

I have the following problem. I have added a NAS to our network and
created a DHCP reservation for it. Now, I see under DNS two PTR records
with the same IP address but different host names. One host is the
network computer and another is NAS.

When I go to Run and type \\NAS01 I get the following error:

"\\NAS01 is not available. You might not have permission to use this
network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.

This server is not synchronized with the primary domain controller's clock."

However, I can reach it by typing its IP address \\10.10.10.1 and
navigate all shared folders.

Also, I have no more access to Web Management console of this NAS.

I suspect two things: 1) Couple of weeks ago one user that uses the
laptop connected to our lan and got the IP conflict message. It was
conflicting with the NAS device. After that I've made a DHCP reservation
and could for some time access the web admin of the nas.
2) Maybe it has something to do with the time change? But why do I still
have these 2 PTR records with the same IP?

Thank you in advance!

Hello Zaur,

You can delete the unused pointer record. To avoid multiple entries in DNS
you have to configure either aging/scavenging or use the DHCP server for
update of DNS records.

Hello!

The scavenging is set up. I've forced scavenging and after some time the
redundant record is now deleted.
However, the problem with the NAS device still persists. I've ran net
time \\nas01 /SET and set up local machine time to NAS device time. This
way I can now access NAS device by typing \\NAS01 in the Run dialog.
However, I still can't access it web admin page. But for this issue I
think I have to ask support of the NAS device.

Thank you very much!
