How can I modify text that was scanned and put into Word?

Where I used to work I know we could scan and document than modify the text
in word but I don't work there any more and I can't figure out how to do it
at home. Can anyone re-educate me?

The scanned page is a "picture" of letters. You need to use
a OCR (optical character reader) to convert the picture to
an ASCII test file. Such software is usually included with
the scanner or you can download OCR from the scanner maker's
site.

Simple OCR is a free program that will do that. It will convert a scanned
document into a Word file that you can then open in Word and modify. You can
download it here:
