Hi,

I'd like to move (being the machine administrator) the whole "User Folder"
in Vista to another disk or another partition ?

- Will all the applications that use the "User Folders" understand this
afterwards ?

Hi Geo,

Not recommended in a single user machine, see my response to your other
question as to why.

Actualy, I don't have a single user machine Rick.

What I have is :
- An administrator
- 2 users (me and my wife).

Does that change anything to what you said before ?

Thanks
Geo

No, it would just potentially make performance lag for all users.

The "users" is a system folder that will be recreated the first time the
system wants to store something in this designated area.

You can move some of the individual folders for an individual to another
partition. I invariably do so to protect user created data. If you move the
"Documents" folder to another partition, all sub folders will also be moved.
Any programs that save to any of those sub folders will then automatically
store user created files to the new locations.

Richard:

As an add-on to your comments, with a question:

I wanted to move my "Documents" folder to another partition, but didn't
want to include all of its subfolders (such as "Music"), so I those
folders out of Documents before making the move. AFAICT, everything is
working fine. Are you aware of any potential problems with doing this?

I have to make a correction here. I was working on a XP computer and
temporarily confused the two methods of moving the Documents folder.

In Vista, moving the Documents folder does NOT move any sub folders. It does
move the files within the main folder.

Each sub-folder must be moved individually to reside within the "new"
Documents folder, wherever you created it. If you moved the Documents folder
to D:\Documents then each sub-folder will be moved as such:

D:\Documents\Music, D:\Documents\Pictures, D:\Documents\Videos etc.
