You could try what I'm doing: Use Shavlik.com for updates and avoid
the MS update site. I downloaded shavlik's program and have scanned,
identified needed updates, downloaded them, and then installed them.
Shavlik can install them automatically if you like. Shavlik created
the MS Security Baseline Analysis program; it's a reputable site,
mainly designed for commercial users, but free for users with under 10
PC's.
