I tried installing the SP1 update 4 times since yesterday. I followed all the
trouble shooting suggestions with no success. On the fourth try, the screen
froze once it said update did not install, please wait while roll back
changes. Well, I waited for over 3 hours and nothing ever changed---I could
not exit or shut down normally, I had to turn off the power to the pc. When
I tried to reboot, it just gets stuck at the Microsoft Corporation screen and
the green bars are running but nothing happens. I tried everything (rebooting
in safe mode, tried using recovery disks, went to HP live help) nothing
works.
Does anyone know what I can do?

I found a support article from Microsoft about failed SP1
installations. Give it a look and see if there's anything in there that
will assist you, here's the link: 'Error message when you try to install
Windows Vista Service Pack 1: \"Installation was not successful\" or
\"An internal error occurred while installing the service pack\"'

I hope this helps.

Joe, thanks for the info., but I already did all those steps before my 4th
install attempt. My problem is that after the 4th installation attempt, my PC
will not boot at all and I do not have an installation disc to try to repair
it. I do no even know it an installation disc would repair it. I could not
get the Recovery Disk to work. I really hope someone can help me out.
