Hi there all,
My mother had ran an update that after rebooting the computer, she would get
this error...
Explorer.EXE - Entry Point Not Found - The procedure entry point
SHCreateThreadRef could not be located in the dynamic link library SHLWAPI.dll
She then said if she clicks on ok, nothing happens. All she gets is a blue
screen with no start button or any of the icons to load up.
I found an artical that says that I need to delete the hot fix kb834707. I
followed the instructions which says after you restart your computer you let
it run like normal, and when the error pops-up you hold down the ctrl + shift
+ esc keys. Then the windows task manager opens up and in there you click on
file new task (run). A run dialog box pops-up and you type in "control
appwiz.cpl", without the quotes. In there you click on the hotfix KB834707
and click on remove.
So I go and do that and an uninstall instrtuction box pops-up, you click on
next and then it says deleting this hot fix make all files that are listed
not to work. Do you want to continue? I clicked on and yes and the next
screen says deleting files. After that I click on finish and it reboots the
computer. Though after rebooting the computer it still pops-up the same damb
error. So I followed the steps I did previously again and in the Add and
Remove program, it says that the KB834707 is still there. Why isn't it
deleting this? I tried this 4 times and it keeps showing that it is still in
there and I still get the error at startup.
So to add on to this someone had refered me to do a windows repair. I looked
up some information about this and it states that it is possible I can loose
some of the data. Though to resolve this, it says that I can remove the
Undo_guimode.txt file by typing this command in the run dialog box...
del /a /f %windir%\system32\undo_guimode.txt
so I tried going back to the run dialog box by hitting the ctrl + shift +
esc keys, and in the windows task manager I clicked on file new task (run).
Though I guess because I have been toying with this computer so much that now
the computer locks up after tring to open the run dialog box from the windows
task manager. So now I can't do squat. it basical just keeps on freezing
after the window task manager opens.
could anyone help me out. I am tring not to loose any of the data that is on
this computer.
