I DOWNLOAD A FILE FROM CD-ROM OR INTERNET. SAVE IT TO A FILE AND THE STATUS
SCREEN COMES UP AND COUNTS DOWN. THEN WHEN COMPLETED NO OPEN OR RUN TAB COMES
UP AND THE FILE IS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND.
ANY IDEAS HOW TO FIX THIS. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A SECURITY FEATURE
ON PREVENTING ME FROM DOWNLOADING

I'm not sure of this from what you said in your post, so I will ask. Did you
use Windows Explorer to look in your designated location for this downloaded
file after the download was complete? Notice that I do not use ALL CAPS.
This is much more polite.

Psl,
First never post in all Caps. It is a turn off and represents 'shouting'.
Many observers will just discount your post.

Regarding the problem, try opening Windows Explorer. Go to your user name
located under Desktop. Click on 'Downloads'. You could find your
downloaded files there.

I don't understand how a CD-ROM is applicable to the problem.

Regards,

THE START ORB MENU HAS A SEARCH FEATURE. LOOK FOR THE FILES WITH ADVANCED
SETTINGS TO LOOK BY DATE. (AND TURN OFF THE CAPS LOCK, IT'S CONSIDERED RUDE
TO SHOUT YOUR MESSAGE IN A NEWSGROUP.)

Ahh, That's better.

OK, well you need to do a test to find out where these files are going. When
you download some file you should get a message box asking you if you want
to run or save the file. Click on save. You then will be shown your default
location where this downloaded file would be saved if you didn't make any
changes to the location. That might be enough information for you to solve
your problem. You could look at that location using Windows Explorer and see
if your missing downloads are there. If that doesn't work for you, then
change the save location in the message box to a location that you are
familiar with and go ahead with the download. After the download is
complete, go to that location using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)
and see if the downloaded file is there.

I had another thought. When you are about to download a file, are you
clicking on "Run" instead of "Save"? If so, the program will be downloaded
and installed in one step without leaving the .exe version of the file on
the computer. In that case there would be no file on your computer for you
to find after the download but the functioning program should be there in
Start, All Programs.

Simply pay attention to where *you're* telling the OS to save the file(s).

Also, please unstick your CapsLock key. Posting in all caps, as
you have done, is the Usenet equivalent of shouting, and is considered
very rude by a large number of people. More importantly, posting in all
caps makes the post harder to read, further reducing your chances of
getting help; a great many people won't even try to read such a message.
If you really want help, simply comply with the dictates of common
courtesy and the conventions of the venue.
