My Automatic Windows Update quit working and when I tried to check for
updates manually, I received this error message:
Error 08xDDD0018 "The site cannot continue because one or more of these
Windows services is not running." I followed the instructions below the error
report but Automatic Updates would not start and I received another error:
"1058"

Any assistance will be greately appreciated.

Thsnks,

Jim

System may be infected with malware "Vundo" and it's mates (most likely)
http://www.microsoft.com/security/po...=Win32%2fVundo

Otherwise -

Service does not start and displays "Error 1058"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/241584

You cannot manually start the Automatic Updates service and you receive an
"Error 1058" error message on a computer that is running Windows XP or
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896224

"Could not start the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service. Error 1058" error
message when you manually start the Remote Procedure Call service
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838428

I have completed 3 the procedures that you have suggested below but there is
no change - windows will not update. the following message is presented:
"[Error number: 0x8DDD0018] The site cannot continue because one or more of
these Windows services is not running:"

The "Win32/Vundo.gen!Z" Trojan has been removed, according to Microsoft's
"All in One Safety Scan and McAfee.

AMD 64X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+; 2 gig RAM
Windows XP Pro 32bit; Sercice Pack 3

Do you require any more info?

Thanks,
Jim
