Hi guys.

Added a new forward/reverse lookup zones to our DNS servers here today to
represent our head offices domain. The domains are not trusted and no DNS
replication is happening. I added some manual A host records to represent
some servers. I can only ping the FQDN of these servers and not the
Hostname/Netbios name.

The only way to get hostname/netbios resolution working is to have a static
Wins mapping. Im trrying to get away from using WINS. IS there away of
getting netbios/hostname name resoltion working using DNS ?

thanks

You will need to create an additional Search Suffix on each machine you want
the Client Side Resolver to devolve to resolve names in that namespace,
otherwise stick with WINS.

That's correct about Group Policy. A policy would be created on each
forest/domain for the other respective namespace.
