Can receive but can't send email after installing WinXP update 893

Anyone else have this problem?

Here is the situation:
- Office network (LAN) using Win2K3 SBS as server
- WinXP Pro SP2
- Outlook 2K SR-1
- Symantec AV 9
- DSL

Before installing the updates 890923, 890859, 893066, 893086 everything
works fine. After installing the updates, email can be received but no longer
sent. Also, certain websites can no longer be accessed.

I ran Office Update but that didn't help.

If I go into Add/Remove programs and remove 893066, everything works just
dandy again. Once I install the update, I can no longer send mail. My ISP
says it's not their fault and have removed the filter on Port 25 (whatever
that means) but we continue to have problems. All of our XP machines are now
set to download but not install Windows Updates until we can figure this out.

I saw an article about TCP/IP issues with this update but I can't really be
sure if my situation matches that one much less how to go into the registry
and fix it.

Any ideas? TIA.

Scott

Remove the kb893066 through add/remove programs in your control panel. I had
the same problem here with replying to email. There is something wrong with
this hotfix, I wasn't able to figure out what but it wasn't really worth my
time for the 'security' improvements it claims to provide. Choose to 'hide'
this hotfix on windows update website until they figure out what's wrong with
it.
Are you behind a VPN? That is something I suspect this hotfix has trouble
negotiating.
