I'm having the same problem as a few other frustrated vista and
windows mail users. It was working fine up until I closed down
yesterday and now today I can receive emails but not send any. I have
a BT Voyager 2091 router and BT is my provider. Spent an hour with BT
helpdesk this morning, Norton disabled but still no joy. Error
message I get when I click on Send/Receive button on Window Mail task
bar is: -

Subject 'c', Account: 'Mark Rees', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19
Can anyone help please. Thinking of having a hair transplant so I can
pull it out.

Disabling Norton is not sufficient. You must completely uninstall it.
If after that it still doesn't work, recreate the account from scratch,
then delete the old account. Norton has a nasty habit of corrupting
mail accounts.

Install a compatible antivirus program like the free version of Avast,
but make sure its email scanning option is off.

Hi.....All I can say at the moment is thank you for posting!! All day I've
been having the same problem - with same error code & same provider. I've
got a BT Router 2100 & can recieve e-mails but not send any & was about to
throw our brand new computer out of the window!! Thing I don't understand
(possibly nieve I know!!) is why Windows release a product with so many
outstanding problems & incompatabilities with other software.

So "markrees224" what do we do now?

How can the problems be solved before they are discovered?

BTW... reserve your contempt for you pc manufacturer
who has, probably, cynically accepted bribes by software
suppliers (McAfee and Norton are prime examples)
to include their lousy products with the machine.

I am also having this problem, however I do not use a BT router, I do not
have Norton or McAfee installed. It seems very strange that it should happen
to all of us today. Yesterday everything was fine. I have tried another email
program with no success. Could the answer lie with Bt Yahoo??

If you do not have a non-compatible antivirus installed, and the same
problem occurs with a different email program, then the culprit is
likely to be your ISP's SMTP server.
The only way to verify this is to set up and try sending from an account
with a different SMTP server, such as a free Gmail account.

I think you are probably correct, this would explain why so many people are
experiencing the same problem today. Hopefully BT Yahoo will sort it out
pronto, although it might be possible that they are unaware that it is
happening. I read in one group the someone had spent over an hour on the
phone to BT and all they could suggest was to uninstall Norton. Typical!

Thanks for your comments which confirmed my thoughts.

Andy, which antivirus are you running, and when did this problem start?

If your Outlook is 2003 or later, you might try installing it on your Vista
PC. Most Outlook licenses are good for two or three installs.
