I associated the wrong application to a certain filetype (I've put *.001
files to open with WinRAR). Now I want to remove this association, so
that the filetype 001 opens with nothing.

Anyone knows how to remove this association? I can only change the
association to other filetypes... but I don't want any application to
open it...

Thanks.

Wow. Nice program. That should do it.
But how can I do it without having to install 3rd party software?

Download XdN Tweaker from the link above. It has the program you want in it
along with several other things you can do. Make sure and get the ZIP file
and you don't have to install anything, just unzip and run the EXE.

Look down a little where it says:
Don't want to install it? Here is the Zip File

Unfortunately, you need to edit the registry for removing file type associations. Or, use a tool such as:

[Unassoc] An utility to unassociate file types in Windows Vista:

The only way to do it without the aid of 3rd-party software is to open
regedit, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and delete the .001 key (or whatever
extension you want to unassociate). It then requires a reboot to lose the
icon. Not for the faint-hearted. It's what I've done before finding this
thread but I think I'll be checking out the software option in future.

That doesn't seem very hard to do. Should I delete the whole entr
inside .001
