How can I remove a Windows Update that has been installed?

Having had a problem following the latest IE security update (KB978207) with
IE8 itself and, having already posted and tried a couple of suggestions made,
including raising a support case (what a waste of time that was, they told me
to look in the knowledge base and to raise a question in here, both of which
I had done already!), I now would like to know if it is possible to get rid
of this update somehow as the problem is getting really irritating and I
can't figure out what to do about it.

So, is it possible to uninstall/remove a Windows Update?

[crosspost to IE General]

Your original thread about this:

1. Does the behavior persist if you start IE in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE in No Add-ons mode:

=> Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without
Add-ons; or

=> Start | (All) Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet
Explorer (No add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode [Applies to IE7 &
IE8 in all OSS]

2. Does the behavior persist if you Reset IE Advanced settings (RIES)?

You opened your no-charge support case by email: Have you replied to the
tech & told him that you still need assistance?

Can you use Skype to call the 0844 number? Do you consider your computer's
security less important than saving some pocket change to call the number on
a landline phone? (You can always ask them to call you back on their
pennie!)

Did you have any luck with Kai's ie8-rereg batch file?

The above notwithstanding, you can uninstall KB978207 via Add/Remove
Programs just like 99% of updates. That being said:

If you find that uninstalling it does NOT resolve your problem, reinstall it
ASAP.

If you find that uninstalling it does resolve your problem, try reinstalling
it with Threatfire temporarily disabled.

NB: IE updates are generally released every 2 months and they are cumulative
updates (i.e., the next update will include everything in KB978207). If
uninstalling KB978207 resolves your problem, are you going to refrain from
installing any further updates, thereby putting your computer (and its data)
at risk?
