Hi all,

We have windows 2003 SP2 32bit Domain controller with windows 2003
functional level.
I need to run exchange 2010 prep on the 32 bit schema master, can I run it
since the exchange 2010 i only have 64bit? Is there a way to get around?

thank you.

Hello ed,

According to this it should work, as long as you have 64bit machine in the
same domain and site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb125224.aspx

"As the setup /PrepareSchema command must be run on a 64-bit computer in
the same domain and in the same Active Directory site as the schema master."

Best regards

We have many dc's all running 32 bit with our geo-clustered Exchange 2007
running 64 bit, no problem.

If you have any Windows 7, Vista or XP 64 bit machines, you can pop in the DVD and run the prep tools. Just make sure you are logged on as an EA.

thank you for ALL your help.

So, if I have 64 bit windows 2008 member server, I can run prep tools. I do
not need to physically log on to the windows 2003 schema master to run it,
right?

BTW, is it better to introduce windows 2008 or windows 2008 R2 64 bit DCs
first to the windows 2003 domain envir. and then introduce the exchange 2010
servers? or it does not matter which one is first or not?

Thank you.

That's right, you do not have to be directly on the Schema Master. I
have prepped and installed a 2008 R2 DC directly into a 2003 domain
with success, so I can account that it works.
