I can see them online but they cant see me

Hi,

Lately if someone add's me on MSN, I can see them online but they can't see
me (I'm not on their list at all except as my email address)

It's also happened vice-a-versa where They can see me, but I can't see them
online. THey are on my list just as but not online and not
under their username.

Help please
