I am now bored with one of my WS03 machines telling me that windows update,
BITS etc are not running when they are.

How can I uninstall the new clever "windows update" and go back to the more
reliable "microsoft update"

R

Microsoft Update is new and Windows Update is old.
If you want to go back to Windows Update:
Open Microsoft Update
Click "Change Settings" on the left side.
Scroll down to the bottom.
Place a check in the box "Disable Microsoft Update...".
Click "Apply changes now".

That doesn't work, your still reverted to Microsoft Update. You need to do
the following

On the Microsoft Update site go to "Use Administrator options - clicking on
the Windows Update Catalog link - click on the Windows Update link under the
See Also on the left side". I had to do this last time I updated this
