I have a server at a data center connected to a 10Mbs internet connection.
It is one of 4 servers. When I tried to run windows update to get Windows
2003 Server Service Pack 1 it went to the MS site and found it and I used
Express install to start the download. It said it would take about 2 hours
to download. The other machines in the same environment took about 5
minutes. I canceled the download and tried again. It just restarted where it
left off in the previous download and was very, very, very slow...
So from the same machine I went to the MS download page to directly download
it and it downloaded in about 5 minutes....an expected value. So it appears
the windows update service checks the download connection speed and uses
that to throttle the download. But the problem is it doesnt appear to
recheck the connection speed during the cycling of cancling the update and
restarting the update.
The question is how can the Windows update service be reset to restart from
the beginning any downloads that were previously canceled and not let it
start where it left off?
Is there a way to force the update service to recheck the connection speed?
Thanks,
Gery
