Can I use Win 7 RC as Guest OS? Additions needed?

1. I have Win XP Pro SP2 as the Host. I plan to install Win VPC 2007 and then
install Win 7 RC, which I have on a (legitimate Microsoft ) DVD, as the Guest
OS. (I have the requisite hardware.) Will the Win 7 RC version work OK?

2. Do I have to install "additions" (whatever they are) and, if so, where do
I get them?

3. How do I eventually remove Win VPC and Win 7 RC from the machine?

This is all new to me so I appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!

You remove a virtual machine by simply deleting the files from your hard
drive. You remove VPC by uninstalling it like any other application.

How much memory does your XP have? Win7 needs at least 1GB to run at all
effectively and should have more. That is in addition to the normal amount
of memory that XP uses.

When you set up the virtual machine be sure to select the OS type as Vista.
You install the additions from the menu on the running virtual machine.

Yes. W7's hardware requirements/support are fairly similar to Vista,
close enough that when W7 isn't a listed option, try Vista (And this
applies in general, not just VPC)

Keep in mind that there are no Additions for Windows 7 yet. They are
specifically written for each OS and only WinVPC (for Windows 7 only)
has them. There are none forWin7 on VPC2007 so the performance of
running Win7 under VPC2007 will likely be poor compared to XP or
Vista.

I have tried running WIn7 RC under VPC2007 on a WinXP SP3 host. It was
very slow.
So I installed Sun's VirtualBox on the XP machine and used that to
install Win7 RC. It runs fine (faster than Vista under VirtualBox).
BTW, VirtualBox is free as well (for non commercial user, that is).

Thank you for the clarification on the addtiions. I hope the performance
won't be so bad as to defeat my purpose; namely to get a good idea of what
Win 7 is like. Unfortunately, I won't be able to evaluate performance but
will see the GUI. features, etc.

Jos, I very much appreciate your information regarding VirtualBox. Was
VirtualBox as simple as Win VPC to install and run? Are the hardware
requirements similar to Win VPC?

I use VirtualBox to run Windows7. The host is Vista but it works just as
well with XP. The short answer is: it works extremely well. I have
allocated 1GB to vBox which leaves 2.3GB for my Vista ( my total RAM is
4GB with 32bit Vista). I also allocated 20GBs of disk storage (dynamic)
but if you plan to install and run a lot of stuff, 30GB may be better.
The performance of W7 is phenomenal (also when I switch over to Vista
with 1 click). It boots faster in vBox than my Vista boots when it has
the whole system to itself (my processor is a Q6600). I have produced a
little guide on how to install and operate W7 in vBox ( also MS Virtual
