Can Vista be "locked down" ?

I have a laptop with 64-bit Home Premium. I'm using IE 8. I have some
questions regarding "locking down" Vista with the tools supplied by Vista.

I'm using IE 8. I've read that it uses protected mode & that the IE code is
isolated from the OS code. Does that mean that it is impossible for my laptop
to be infected by viruses, spyware, etc. ?

The following is from the boook, "Windows Vista Unleashed".

"Administrators group-Members of this group run as standard users, but are
able to elevate their privileges when required just by clicking a button in a
dialog box.

(That must be why I need to click the button on the dialog box.)

Standard users group-These are the least-privileged users, although they,
too, can elevate their privileges when needed. However, they require access
to an administrator password to do so."

Well, that's confusing! Administrator runs as standard user. Then why setup
a standard account when the administrator runs as a standard user?

What other settings in IE 8 can I set or change to make IE 8 more secure?

Thank you.
David

None. Nuke Vista and install a truly safe OS like Ubuntu. It's free and
comes with access to thousands of free programs. Get it at
http://www.ubuntu.com/

What a total ****WIT you are. The guy had a question about IE8 and you tell
him to run that INFERIOR Ubuntu piece of **** that doesn't run any of the
programs he has? You are a waste of human life.

Just FYI.

Yawn. Ubuntu is safer than IE will ever be. The OP wants a safe surfing
environment which excludes any and all flavors of Windows.

Considering you haven't installed or used Ubuntu, your opinions are
worthless. Considering that your "argument" is to insult me, your
argument is worthless.

Now, hot shot, can you help the OP or just hurl insults at me for trying
to help him?

It was a suggestion. If the OP can afford a Mac, that would be a good
suggestion too.

No matter what you do to IE you can most definitely get infected with
malware.

I keep telling you that I've installed Ubuntu but you are too stupid to
remember anything. No wonder you use Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is worthless and most people think so. That is why Ubuntu is still
on less than one percent of the desktops out there. Imagine a FREE OS that
people reject. That should tell you all you need to know about that lousy
OS Ubuntu.
