Can we work with Exchange 2000?

We have an Exchange 2000 server running the Exchange IM service. Presently
our users are using MSN Messenger 5.1 to access that service but we would
like to upgrade to Live Messenger. Is there a version, or a workaround, that
will allow us to do this?

Greetings Sam,

You can run Windows Live Messenger and Windows Messenger 5.1 concurrently, but there is no
way to use your Exchange IM Service with Windows Live Messenger.

Thanks Jonathan! It's looking like my alternative is to either load 5.1 on my
new machines or build an LCS server and use the preloaded Live Messenger to
attach to LCS. I don want my old clients to lose communication with my new
clients so I will want all of them to talk to LCS.......do you know if 5.1
will talk to LCS or will I have to upgrade all my old clients? Conversely, is
there a way to get Exchange and LCS to talk to each other so that I can have
clients on both platforms communicate with each other?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sam,

LCS won't connect to Live Messenger either, you'll have to use either Windows Messenger 5.1
or Office Communicator.

5.1 will work with LCS just fine. I don't believe there's a way to do the Exchange/LCS
interopt though. Obviously you can connect to both at the same time using 5.1 and then be
able to talk on both services at the same time.
