Too much negative too say about Vista, I have purchased 2 differen
computers from Dell and HP with Vista Ultimate loaded on both
Nothing but problems, not with my printers or cameras or stuff lik
that- NO, contacted Dell help support line to troubleshoot the fact tha
I cannot access the control panel
Brand new system out of the box and unable to access the control panel
After an hour on the phone, they decided to have me re-load the OS
(what a pain in the ***
After reloading Ultimate, still could not access the control panel
Updated the software through windows update, still no control panel
Tech @ Dell says there has been a ton of issue's with Vista
I also have multiple problems on my HP with programs designed for vist
not opening i.e. click the shortcut on the desktop, get the littl
circle affect for a few seconds, then NOTHING

Finally purchased a copy of XP pro sp2, loaded on the NEW Dell syste
and it works great :

Shipping the HP back to HP

I see Vista as nothing more than a souped up version of XP
The same way I (and others I know in my office) felt when Millenniu
Edition was released and flopped horribly

I watched Mr. Gates brag how stable this new Vista OS would be, I thin
they (he) seriously screwed the pooch again with vista

I will be sticking with XP until these problems are resolved-if the
ever are

I won't deny that Vista has had problems (though I haven't had any serious
ones).
However, I think that in a case like yours it may not be fair to trash Vista
without looking at all the other crap that vendors like to load onto
computers, including especially Norton products and any potential conflicts
that software may pose.

And it also amazes me that vendors don't bother to check if their systems
work before they ship them. Sure, it's a little bit more time and money on
the front end for them, but it could save them time on the tech-support end,
as well as any shipping costs they may have to pay if a customer returns a
non-functioning computer. I assume Dell pays the return shipping in a
situation like yours, where the computer doesn't work the way it's supposed
to right out of the box.

What you say applies only to your experiences with OEM machines and the
abysmal support offered by OEM. It is not the fault of Vista directly that
it has problems with what the OEMs add to the installations, or that it has
problems with OEM device drivers. That is not to say that Vista hasn't had
issues of its own, most of which are addressed in SP1.

Just my 2 Cents! I purchased an Acer PC with Vista installed and have not
had any problems. I knew going in that some of my "stuff" would not work
with Vista, i.e. some games and Joy Sticks and that, I think, is where folks
make a mistake by not knowing what will and what will not work with Vista.
What we need are new Drivers but I guess there is not any $$ in that when
"they" want to sell us new :stuff".

Read the post guy's!
How could anything other than the operating system cause the control
panel not to open???
Fresh load of Vista Ultimate and I still have problems, maybe it's the
reinstallation disk.

Why is it that most friends, family and co-workers all agree that Vista
is way too buggy to be used on a daily basis?
It's not just me. The way i'm hearing you here is that it's the
manufacture's problem, not Vista.
Been purchasing Dell computers for my office since 1998, and I have yet
to see a software bug in their software that would create so many
problems.

Microsoft should have come out with XP Second edition.

I'm not familiar with Dell and would like to know if the "reinstallation
disk" is a complete, separate Vista DVD? And did you flatten (complete
re-format) your HDD prior to the re-install, or did you re-install over
the existing install?
Just curious.

But it opens on my computer and thousands if not millions of others. So, how
can you say it's the OS's fault when it's not happening on all machines?
Seems to me the argument cuts both ways. You are having a problem that
others aren't having. Does that mean we have better machines than yours?
Does it mean you got a faulty copy of Vista? Does it mean something is wrong
with your machine?
I'm not saying that "yes" is the answer to any of those three questions. But
I think those are valid questions that present an alternative to your thesis
that it can't be "anything other than the operating system."

It could be faulty hardware which is causing problems, it could be anything
at all, but Vista runs well for many people so there is no universal 'can't
open Control Panel' bug..

If the machine was not good from the minute it was taken out of the box and
powered up, I would have called Dell to tell them they are going to receive
a piece of junk for which I would like in its place a working computer..

I have had to deal with many OEM computers.

My sons Compaq that came with XP home had all kinds of problems. When it
refused to run a game he had purchased I wiped the drive including any
restore partitions and got a boxed version of XP home. After installing he
had no more problems.

Same with my wifes Compaq Notebook would bluescreen when running MS money
and Outlook.
We have many Dell Notebooks and Desktops at my work and they have many more
issues than our IBM desktop systems which are under a volume licence with XP
pro.

I home build all my own systems and have had no BSOD's with Vista Home
Premium x64 all my hardware works fine. Running Vista since Feb 07.

Just looking in this NG there are a lot of posts that start with "My
Dell......." or "My HP......."

Just my opinion on this......
