Cannot access encrypted pages or windows upload

This problem is driving me crazy...please help.

I cannot download from windows update, nor can i access any encrypted pages
on explorer. I cannot access my msn email accounts and i cannot even post
this message using internet explorer i had to use firefox to post this
message. All my security settings are set correctly I have activex installed.
When i try to access windows update and download files (my virus software
trend micro pc-illin tells me i need four critical updates and another few
updates it ranks high priotity) I cant download any of these.....when i get
to the windows update download page i get the message ' Checking if your
computer has the latest version of Windows updating software for use with the
website…' then i get the info bar at the top telling me...Your security
settings do not allow websites to use activeX controls installed on your
computer......This page may not display correctly, cllick here for options'
I already know my settings are correct. I can acccess encrypted pages using
firefox.....although i still cannot download anything from windows
downloads...including these critical updates my pc needs......someone please
assist. Thank you.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Locate the 'ActiveX controls and plug-ins' category.
Enable the 'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins', and enable the 'Script ActiveX controls marked
as safe for scripting'


Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Internet",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Medium", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Internet Options, "Security" Tab, click "Trusted sites",
"Custom Level" button. Reset to "Low", click the "Reset" button and "OK" your way out.

You receive a "Your current security settings prohibit running ActiveX controls on this page"
message when you try to use Windows Update
