Greetings Shaggy,
Which "registry fix" are you talking about?
You can probably solve this by forcing Messenger to redownload your local store of contacts.
To do this, shut down/sign out of Messenger, then head over to the following folder, and
delete the "Windows Live Contacts" inside it:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft
Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden
by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.
Once this is complete, sign back into Messenger again (note the first sign in may be a bit
slower than normal) and attempt the add process once more.
