Hello, I am having problems tonight adding contacts on Windows Live Messenger
14.0. If I click "Add Contact", and enter the correct address, it will tell
me "It looks like *the contacts email* doesn't use Messenger yet" even though
they do, and are currently online.

They will not get a notification that I added them, and if they add me I
wont get a notification. The strange thing is, I tryed to add them with
Windows Messenger (the version included with XP), and it worked! When I
logged back into windows LIVE messenger however, they where not in my contact
list and I would have the same issues.

I've tryed the registry fix, with no luck. Also tryed to import my contacts
from Windows Messenger, with no luck.

Greetings Shaggy,

Which "registry fix" are you talking about?

You can probably solve this by forcing Messenger to redownload your local store of contacts.
To do this, shut down/sign out of Messenger, then head over to the following folder, and
delete the "Windows Live Contacts" inside it:
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

Where username is your Windows username. Additionally, some of these folders will be hidden
by default, to see them simply press the
Alt key on the keyboard in any Windows Explorer window to bring up the toolbar, click Tools,
then Folder Options, then the View tab, and then choose 'Show hidden files and folders'.
After click OK, they should appear with the other folders.

Once this is complete, sign back into Messenger again (note the first sign in may be a bit
slower than normal) and attempt the add process once more.

I followed all the advice but there's no such folder named Contacts on my XP!
I have no idea what's going on, but it's really frustrating not being able to
add new contacts! Are there any other solutions?

Hi hussy7, I have had the same problem where I can't add contacts as I had
before.
When trying to view the contacts in the said folder, have in your Folder
view section, of Folder Options, 'Hide protected operating system files'
unchecked and you'll see them.
From there and onwards I hope to solve the issue.

back again, the only way after trying much was to uninstall Messenger part of
the Family and download it again- all the techish things mentioned did not
achieve an outcome. There must be another portion not attended to that would
fix it without doing this, but I have the contacts on board now.

Of course I have changed the Secured Layer things and reset the things you
find what to do as well on the help section of messenger. Just reinstalled
after all of that.
Cheers
