Cannot Check dialup line speeds

When connected to a dialup connection, I used to be able to click on the
dialup connection shortcut in order to get the dialog that shows line speed.
It has suddenly stopped working. So I created a new connection and it worked
for a couple of days but now it too does not get me to where I can see line
speeds. Also noticed that when I create a new connection shortcut and delete
the old one, the old one's name still shows up when I hover over the netowkr
connection indicator in the system tray. Anyone know what's going on?

Don't know how you might regain that indicator, but you can enter the realm
of 'Vista cool' by watching that in the perfmon utility. Start Orb, type
'perfmon'

Thanks, but I still would like to be back to where I was before, i.e. one
click access to line speed.

No I'm not running a router.

Think I may have stumbled onto the solution myself. I right clicked the
system tray icon for the connection, went to network and sharing center, and
then went through the "customize" wizard (word customize on upper right) and
it now works!

Thanks for your help.
