Cannot complete update

When i try to install the microsoft update(in system tray) it fails.
The error message says"cannot load ActiveX controll".
Have tried to load from the website as well to no avail??
I recently upgraded my XP pro from a Volume License key to the Full Genuine
XP Pro.

It is possible that your system has been damaged by malware, or that the
Internet Options security configuration is too restrictive.
