I get the following message when trying to connect my 2004 XP Media Center
Computer to the updated XBox 360 software.

"Cannot Connect the Xbox 360 console to This Computer

This computer is running an early version of Windows Media Center.

To stream media content to your Xbox 360, this computer must be running
Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, Windows Vista Home
Premium or Windows Vista Ultimate."

Can I get an update to media center 2005 without buying Vista?

XP MCE 2005 was only released as an "update" by a few PC makers for a brief
period when it first came out (HP, Sony, etc.), otherwise it was considered
a separate OS version. You could try contacting your PC manufacturer, to see
if they still will sell you upgrade discs (probably unlikely) or buy an OEM
version of 2005, which is still available online (try ebay).

The other option is to upgrade to Windows 7, if your system will support it.

Well,Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004 was sold only through OEMs and
presently none of the companies that sold MCE 2004 offer any such upgrade to
MCE 2005.
If you still like to upgrade your system to MCE 2005 then you have to
perform a clean installation with a fresh OEM copy of Windows XP Media
Center Edition 2005.
