Hi Guys and Gals
When I try and copy like 200 photo's (jpg) to a SD memory card (2gig) , I
can only 169 of them to the card , then I get this error .
Error 0x80070052 The directory or file cannot be created .
I am trying to (edit , select all copy , past) from picture folder to memory
card in card reader or in digital pic frame .
If I leave these pics in the folder and copy the whole folder all copy's ok
..
What would cause this ?
Running windows Vista Ult. 32 bit SP1

There is a limit on the number of files that can be in the root directory
(E:\ ) of a device/partition.

Create a folder in the root and then copy the pictures into there
(E:\Pictures\*.jpg).

SD cards are formatted with the Fat32 file system, and can only hold so many
files in the 'root' of the drive. This is due to its limited 'environmental'
space.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the fast response ,
Can I format the SD card in NTFS file system ?
If so , will that eliminate my problem ? Hate to just try it and crash my
card .
Thanks

Your picture frame likely won't like NTFS, check your documentation. Also I
believe that NTFS also has the limit on number of files in the root.

It's not really the card you would crash, but whatever else you use it for,
like a camera or whatever. The File Allocation table does not exist if NTFS
so the various limits, like 512 with fat16 or 64K with fat32 (less due to
long file names, as is probably your case) I have never tried to do a
SanDisk in NTFS, but I doubt you would be happy, in any case. You may get
what you want by using short file names.

Hi Again
Well I did a format in fat 32 and have no problems with the copy paste now .
That seems to work good . That should not create a problem , do you think
, like NTFS .
Will fat 32 be the same as plain fat as far as the compatability goes ?
Thanks

If your other device needs fat16 the conversion back is easy enough.

NTFS has an astronomical limit on files per partition, but no other
limit on files in *any* directory.

FAT32 has a limit of 65,536 entries in a folder. Each file or
subdirectory takes from 1 to 13 entries, depending on how long it is,
so you'll generally run out of room long before you think you should.
The limit for the root directory in FAT32 is the same as for any other
directory.

FAT16 allows only 256 entries in the root directory, but more
(65,536?) in other directories.

Other things being equal, the way around this is simply to create
subdirectories and put your files there. The question here is whether
your digital picture frame would be able to find pics in
subdirectories.

Hi Tim
I did try the folder thing , and the pi frame found the pics ok , but it
took it like almost 7 minutes to start to show them .
It will show them every time I try , but takes it a while to figure it out .
So I guess that will all work ok.
Thanks again.
