Cannot Create New Folders :( HELP!

Hi there,

I accidentally deleted certain Windows applets by using jv16 PowerTools.
Long story, but I was using that utility to clear all traces of a corrupt
Apple iTunes installation. By inserting "Apple" in the 'Registry Find'
parameter box and then instant deleting, I unwittingly included certain
Windows APPLEts! I noticed my mistake quickly enough to prevent many more
being deleted.

So far I've only noticed one function that I have stupidly deleted: I can no
longer select 'Create New Folder' by selecting that option from the
right-click menu. That option is missing and it is annoying! I relied on it
so much. Stupid me. So my questions are:

Is there an easy way to restore the "Create New Folder" option in all right
click menus?

Is there anything I can put back into the registry which I unwittingly
deleted?

Are there any maintenance packs I can download to re-install the items I
deleted from my Windows shell? I use Windows Vista x64 Ultimate

I would be very appreciative of any assistance anyone is able to provide. I
have a bad feeling, however, that this might be a reformat and fresh install
job.

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and right-click
on the Command Prompt and choose "Run as administrator".
Type in: SFC /SCANNOW and press your Enter key.

This procedure will scan Vista's protected system files
and attempt to repair or replace missing or corrupt files.

Have you tried using System Restore? (Click on Start and in the Start Search
field type "System Restore" and follow the on-screen instructions). I'd
highly recommend going through this method which will restore all of the
options which were removed by the registry cleaner software.

As a work around to restore the "New Folder" option only, try the following:

Open a Notepad window and copy and paste the following contained between the
lines (do not copy and paste the lines though):

=========

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.Folder]
@="Folder"

=========

Now save this as "FolderRestore.reg" on your desktop, and then double-click
on the file. If a User Account Control dialog appears, provide consent or the
appropriate credentials, and then merge the entry into the Registry.

Let me know if this helps, have a good day,

I haven't tried it yet myself, but there should be a repair feature on
the Vista DVD assuming you have one. Forget what they call it. It
should scan your system and find corrupt or missing system files. The
down side is if it is like prior versions of Windows while it works
sort of... the process may take longer then doing a fresh rebuilt from
the ground up. I guess it depends on your pain threshold to reinstall
a bunch of stuff.

Darren

Copy the text between the dashed lines (not the dashed lines) and paste them
into Notepad. Save the file as New.reg and place it on the Desktop.

Double click the file and answer the prompts to Merge the file to the
registry.

This should restore that right click menu option.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\Con textMenuHandlers]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\Con textMenuHandlers\New]

I would sincerely like to thank all replying contributors. I'm humbled by
your generosity and assistance.

All suggestions were attempted with the exception of System Restore (which
I'd stupidly turned off to save disc space).

The final registry entry suggestion worked perfectly. I didn't have luck
with any of the others, I'm afraid - but, again, all were greatly
appreciated. I certainly know where to come with any future problems. Many
thanks my friends.

Kind regards,

Darren
