I was browsing my Program files folder, and noticed it was set as a "music"
folder. I went into properties, and noticed the customize option was gone. I
deleted the desktop ini file, but it is still showing as music. Does anyone
know how to restore this option?
Thank you for any input...........

Wade,

Do you mean the Program Data folder? I may be incorrect, but I've never
known the Program Files folder to have the customize tab.

Hello CB, No, I am referring to the "Program Files" folder, honestly I
never paid much attention to the view, until I noticed today, it was showing
all the music information. I am running Norton Ghost, so I went back to take
a look from a backup of about a week ago, and the Program Files folder in
the backup, has the customize option. You may very well be correct, I am
totally new to Vista, and trying to get a handle on it, but why it is
showing as a music folder, may be something squirrelly with my operating
system..

Hi Wade,

You can manually change it back to "Details" folder template by using
the instructions in the NOTE under step 1 here.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/77...templates.html

Method Two in this tutorial will show you how to help prevent Vista
from changing the folder template on you again automatically.

No luck, with this script, or any of the other suggestions so far. Thanks
for the help, but this stubborn folder will not budge. If I didn't see it in
the ghosted image, I would think it probably is not possible. I wouldn't
restore now though. I have added a few progs since the backup.

Hmm...just tested the script again & it worked for me.

Here's the manual drill:

Create a shortcut to Program Files on your desktop so you can open the
folder without browsing thru others.

Open regedit & navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local
Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\Bags]

Export the 'Bags' key to save your folder views & then delete it.

Open Program Files from the shortcut, change the icon style (any change,
just so explorer feels the need to write the changes to the registry).
Close the folder.

In the Registry Editor, press F5 to refresh the view. The 'Bags' key should
be recreated with exactly one numbered subkey. Note that number.

Import your previously saved Bags key & navigate to the Bag number you
noted.

Under the 'Shell' subkey of the numbered key, create a value named
'FolderType', type REG_SZ, with a value of "NotSpecified". Delete the
'SniffedFolderType' value.

That should do it.

Funny, I picked up your last reply from the web page, never made it with
my news reader, regarding the registry hack. I got as far as pressing f5,
but it will not recreate the bags folder.
