Cannot disable automatic backup

My OS is Vista Ultimate
My computer is attempting a scheduled backup every week.
I would like to disable this.
But, when I go to the Backup GUI and try to turn it off, i get the following
error message:

Windows could not disable the automatic backup job for the following reason:

Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager is not
started or was shutdown due to an error (Ox80071A01)
