I keep getting a reminder that I have to run an update to install the
Security Update for Flash Player (KB923789), but everytime I try to download
it, it fails. I have tried this several times but it keeps failing. I am
running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

Tried downloading it and installing it manually?

11/14/2006 -- [ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923789 ]
-- Vulnerabilities in Macromedia Flash Player from Adobe
could allow remote code execution

Pretend you are an IT professional to find and download the actual
installation exe.

Interesting...

1) What did you do to fix it...?
2) What was wrong with the answer that I gave?

You said you were having trouble with one single update. It was reminding
you so I had to assume it was automatic updates that was doing it. If you
downloaded and installed the actual update manually and it installed -
automatic updates would see it was installed and would no longer offer it to
you. I fail to see where I was incorrect to offer that as a solution to
you.

Was it the asking of a simple question to clarify you had not tried to
install the update manually?
Was it my "pretend" statement? Since in order to go from the web page I
gave you for the update to the actual download of the executable file for
the update you would have to select the link that stated:

IT professionals:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms06-069.mspx

and not the one that stated:

Home users:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...ns/200611.mspx

I am truly curious as to why you have responded the way you did to my
attempt to help you...?

I was thrown off by this comment you made--
"Pretend you are an IT professional to find and download the actual
> installation exe."

It just came across kind of like you were talking down to me.
Anyway, I posted this question in another area and I got an answer there.
What was happening was that I was repeatedly getting reminders to download
the update. I would attempt to download it but it would not download. The
message kept coming up over and over. Finally I got it fixed from the other
area that I posted the question. I honestly don't remember what I did, but
it's fixed now.
Thanks for your help.

I wish we knew what you did - it could be very useful.
I was looking for it in Google Groups searches - but comes up only with this
post - so it mustn't have been a newsgroup that archives to google groups.

http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q...=2006&safe=off

Oh well - if you remember - let us know!

And as I described - the pretend statement had to do with the web page I
sent you to and the choices you had there - nothing personal.

yes, that was it. As it turns out, I didn't have to download the latest
version; it fixed itself for some reason.
thanks

I have been trying to install KB923789 for over a month, each time it fails. I have installed my computer with every other update available and all is fine except the flash player. Any Ideas?
