Hello... I am running windows xp home edition and when I go to the windows
update site and click on the 'get high priority updates' button, it says this:

[Error number: 0x800A01CE]
The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are
trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem.
For self-help options:

Frequently Asked Questions

Find Solutions

Windows Update Newsgroup
For assisted support options:

Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for Windows Update issues)

... I have farted around with some of my processes so this may be the
problem? I have RPC 's turned off , cuz I didn't think win update needed
that. I guess if you could tell me which processes it uses to turn back on?
Thank you,

Check these services -

"Remote Procedure Call" (RPCSS) should be enabled, Automatic
"COM+ Event System" (EventSystem) should be enabled, Manual
"System Event Notification Service" (SENS) should be enabled, Automatic
"Volume Shadow Copy" (VSS) should be enabled, Manual
"Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" (SWPRV) should be enabled, manual.
