cannot install certain widows updates

When I try to download an update I receive error message 0X80246006
WRONGBITSVERSION. Has anyone else received this message and if so how do you
resolve the problem so you can download and install the windows update

0x80246006 WU_E_DM_WRONGBITSVERSION A download manager operation could not be completed
because the version of Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is incompatible.

Please check your version of BITS
