Cannot Install (KB892130)/ Error Code: 0x80246002

This is referring to Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)
using Microsoft Update. I checked already that my operating system (Dell:
Windows XP 2002 SP1) is indeed genuine. For some reason it cannot be
installed. Has anyone else had this problem recently and found a solution? No
Knowledge Base articles are currently available with Error Code: 0x80246002

No Ariana, having same problem and I have dell XP with sp2, trying to figure

I'm having the same problem too with my HP nc8230 with XPSp2.
Looks like I havn't been able to update since I switched from Windows update
to Microsoft update, and switching back didn't help.....

Thanks Bruce. Your answer was helpful in the sense I was thinking of updating
to sp2 to see whether that would help. I guess it doesn't.

Thank you Jonas. Also a very helpful reply. So switching back doesn't help
either! Well Microsoft, it's up to you now...

After four attempts at installing Genuine Windows Validation (KB892130) I
was finally successful.
I closed all my protection programs--Norton AntiVirus; Ad-Subtract; Popup
Stoppers and any other protection in start up. Then I went to the Microsoft
Windows Update website and was successful on my fifth try. I did this on my
desktop and my laptop. It worked on both.

Thank you, Jacob Whyte, your solution worked!

Fifth time's the charm. An ironically simple yet moronically illogical
solution ...

I did not even have to switch off any protection programs either.

I got the updates working too!
I uninstalled Panda Platinum and installed Panda Titanium instead and that
worked for me!
