I have Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3
Also, I have the Microsoft Office Standard Edition 2003
There were security updates for Office SP3 on 12/22/07

KB945185:VBE6
KB943973:WORKS632
KB947355 MSO
KB943985/v2: Excel
KB950241: WINWORD on 5/14/08

Microsoft.NET Framwork 2.0 Service Pack 2 4/4/19/09

IE 8 Version 8.0.6001.18702

I have tried installing the update from the taskbar.

I downloaded the update to desktop. I 'ran' the *.exe file, I 'opened' the
*exe file, each time i received the notice "The update cannot be applied"
I tried installing from the update in Microsoft, I tried directly from
Microsoft Office website, each time i received the notice "The update cannot
be applied"

A week ago, I read on the Microsoft website, that i needed to have certain
files in my registry for this Office Patch to install.

I read the info, went to my Registry, looked for the files i needed, two
were missing. They were two numbers missing that I would have had to have
added... I opted not to mess with the registry at the time.

If there are other articles i can read that might pertain as to why I cannot
download this update, please include them.

None of those updates dates from 22 December 2007.

You should have Office 2003 SP3 installed by now.

PS: Office 2003 (SP3 only) entered Extended Support a few months ago.

First see...

Description of the update for Office 2003 (December 9, 2008)

If no joy, either Repair your install of Office 2003 or reinstall it.

So far, i think you hit the nail on the head.
I thought I DID have SP3 for Office, but only for Windows.
I had an automatic update notification this a.m.
I opened it. It was SP3 for Office.
Went back to Microsoft Updates.
"No high priority updates for your computer available"
Went back, reviewed history. Office SP3 had just installed otaday, but
KB949074 still has a "failed" note by it when i review history.

Do I still need KB949074 if I have just updated, and received Office SP3?
AGAIN, thank you.

No problem downloading.

Went to MSOffice, asked if i needed updates/patches... no.
