Cannot install pre-release candidate 1

Have Beta version of Vista installed.

When I attempt to install the pre-release candidate 1 -- even in safe mode
-- I receive error that files are missing or corrupt and installation cannot
continue. Error code 0x8007246 (I think that's the right code).

The same disk installed successfully on a clean hard drive on a separate
computer I own. So, I know the disk is good.

Disabled antivirus. Tried safe mode. Done everything except reformat the
hard drive first.

Ideas what's wrong?

I reformatted a hard drive which had W2K on it and got "NTLDR is missing,
press Ctrl+Alt+del to restart" error message for my trouble. Vista Rc1 Build
5536 would not install on this drive for me.

Nick, you would have got the ntldr is missing message if your pc was trying
to boot from the drive that previously had W2K installed on it. Go into
your BIOS settings and change the boot order to boot from DVD drive first.
Then you should be able to install Vista by booting from the Vista DVD.

Do you have SATA hard drives by chance? Have you got SATA controller
drivers on floppy or USB flashdrive to load during install? (Load drivers
button in Vista, as opposed to F6 in XP).

First, Back up anything important...
Format the drive, clean install is always best.
Make sure that the BIOS has the boot order set to boot to the CD first, then
the HDD0.

Do you get the message "Press any key To Boot From CD"?
If not, then your BIOS is not set to boot to CD first.
