Cannot install update KB835732

I was running XP Sp2, I had to to a re-install using repair option with an
original XP CD(no SP's).
My version is therefore now showing it is original XP version2002.
So I have to re-install updates and eventually SP2 again.
I got all the security updates installed except for KB835732 , it fails on
every attempt.
No help with the log file or error message.
I am sure there is something in my registry preventing the install due to
the SP2 roleback i did.

Any guidance appreciated.

and see whether you can install it manually.

I tried this manual download as well, a few times, and it still failed.

Be as specific as possible about your symptoms please.
Remember, your words have to substitute for what our eyes
might notice.

What failed? The download or the install??

If you are downloading successfully and then attempting an install
look for different logs than the log we usually look at for diagnosing
problems with both the download and install in the same process.
In fact, the same kind of install logs should be available if you were
getting into the install phase before but with a manual install they
may be more obvious. Also, with a manual install you have the
option of invoking the /verbose logging options, if necessary.
In the case of version conflicts and no clear indication of why
the install is being aborted it may be necessary.

I'm having the same problem. The install fails and says to try again. The
associated error code in the install history is 0x05. As suggested
previously, I also downloaded and tried to install manually; the install ran
for awhile but stopped with message "Access Denied". Was then given the
option to have it back everything out - which I accepted.

I have exactly the same situation as Winston. Same Error Code: 0x05 .
I tried many times. The manual installation doesn't work either.

I get the same error code 0x05 every time I try. I am using XP Prof. with SP1
and SP2 installed. Shut down all anti virus software, still no help?

Newbie post. I been searching for 2 days to correct this very problem and I
am having no luck. I am using Windows Home Xp.
I just completed a repair install. I could not update and had to use my
wife's account to get updates to download. Everything donwloaded except
835732. I get "Access Denied" for either account. It appears to be a
permission problem.

Any ideas?

Did the original Windows CD included SP2 ?
Or, was SP2 applied after the repair install ?

You state that everything downloaded, but did everything install except
KB835732 ?
If yes, open the KB835732.log located in the WINDOWS directory (folder)
and paste it into your reply.
