Cannot install updates - no error code

The problem is that I cannot install updates from the micosoft's update
website.

It do identifies the updates to install, downloads it, but fails to install
it. No error code is displayed. The update installer say "Some of the updates
cannot be installed" and it lists all the updates.

This problem actually happened when I performed a "repair install" of my
Window XP Media Center Edition 2005.
I did repair install because I installed a Mac theme - not just theme but it
changes lots of icons/explorer icons and other stuff to Mac(ish) - but after
uninstalling it, the icon didnt get reset to windows default, after trying
lots of things, i decided to do a repair install (which worked)

After the repair install, I went to update site, it displays 75 updates to
install, but i could never install it.

I tried few things from Microsoft Update Help. I renamed the
SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. Installed the Window Installer
again. But the problem persists.

One thing to mention here is that I can install these updates manually. If I
downlaod the updates from MS Download site and installs it, it gets installed.

You may have done some of what I am suggesting in a more manual fashion -
however I ask that you try to do it step-by-step the way I suggest here.

Get Dial-a-Fix:
http://wiki.djlizard.net/Dial-a-fix

Use its options to fix:
- Windows Installer
- Windows Update
- All the Registration Center options.

Turn off the "Empty System32\Catroot 2"
Do NOT do "Flush SoftwareDistribution".

Then click "GO" and wait until it is done... Reboot may be needed.

- Download/Install Windows Update v3.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=91237
(You *will* need to install it using the command line switch "/wuforce"
right
after an additional reboot - immediately after logging in.)

- Download/Install the 927891 patch.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...9-404327772E5A

- Reboot.

- Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and scan for/install updates.

- Come back and let us know how things went!

I am having same problem. However I do not know how to install it using the
command line switch. I guess I'm a GUI person. I have looked for a long time
searching the web to see exactly how to do this but no where can I find all
the commands put together. Could someone help me here?

Thanks

PJ
