We installed a new copy of windows 2003 server on a PC. When we launched
windows update, it went to v4 of the site and found 37 critical updates.
However, none of them can install successfully after download. I also tried
downloading one of them individually and install it manually (eg, Kb 867282).
update.exe gives an error dialog box that says The procedure entry point
Fluse could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll

This symptom seems to suggest there are some wrong versions, or my copy of
windows 2003 has something wrong (it is a genuine copy with license). What
is happening and what can i do??

I don't have your OS to check with but another possibility is that
kernel32.dll isn't supposed to have that entry point and the problem
is in the module which is attempting the call...

Have you checked to see if there is any supplementary information
about the caller (e.g. in the EventViewer)? Alternatively you could
attempt to discover the source of the call using tools such as FileMon
or drwtsn32 (e.g., if there is a dump of the failure).

i think its a strange issue windows 2003 has with my drive d (80gb ata ide
harddisk).
windows setup created temp folders in drive d. i have had problems with this
drive d under windows 2003.
when i removed this drive d, windows 2003 update placed temp files on drive
c and run without problems.
so i need to find out why this 80gb harddisk does not work under win2k3.
when i tried to run setup on this disk, it failed and could not format it.
however, if i install win2k, it formats ok.
