cannot install Win98 digital camera software

After several minutes, it finally says something like: error installing
software, aborted.

I've also tried to install some Win98 software on Vista that seemed to work,
but there was no way to remove it using control panel.

I miss the old Windows Explorer. What happened to that?

It is still there, look in the accesories on all programs of the start
menu or create a new shortcut on your desktop and for the path put
%windir%\explorer.exe

I meant Win XP, not Win 98.

I still have Win xp on one computer so I am OK. Is this an issue with Win
xp programs not working in Win vista?

The location for windows explorer for a shortcut on your desktop works
on 98, XP, Vista and Windows 7. Right click in the desktop, select new
shortcut and copy %windir%\explorer.exe into the location slot, click
on next and then on finish and you will have the windows explorer that
you wanted available from your desktop.

Sometimes software designed for windows XP does not work on vista,
especially if it contains drivers for a camera or such like. If that
happens you need to go to the camera manufacturers site and look in
the support section or download section for new software for your
particular camera.

In XP, when I had a folder with different file extensions (JPEG, GIF, PDF,
PSD, TXT, ZIP, AVI, MP3...), I could have it sort them by file extension.
How do I do that in Vista?

The same way as you did in XP right click in the window then select
sort by and then type
