Hello Microsoft MVPs.

I am having an issue here where I cannot install Windows Updates due to not
being able to download the ActiveX control. I also cannot download ANY
ActiveX control. The prompt just doesn't come up. Security settings in IE put
as low as they can go, and customized several times.

By the way, I just reinstalled Windows, if that makes any difference.
Windows XP SP2.

Also, since the reinstallation, my .NET Framework has gone corrupt, and any
attempt to repair/reinstall it has gone for naught.

Any and all help appreciated,

ActiveX - Try re-registering the following .dll files
Softpub.dll
Wintrust.dll
Initpki.dll
Urlmon.dll

1. Click Start >Run and type
regsvr32 Softpub.dll
Click okay to register it
You should get a dialog box telling you that it was successful.
2. Repeat the process for the other .dll files.
3. Restart your computer and try the update site again.

Add Windows Update to the trusted sites zone:
1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security tab.
4. Click Trusted Sites, and then click Sites.
5. Clear the require server verification (https for all sites in this zone check box.
6. Make sure that the following URLs are listed in the Web Sites box:
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
