Cannot load new display drivers - Access Denied

I've upgraded my monitor (to a widescreen), and am trying to load the new
drivers in Vista Home Premium. Even as Administrator, I get "Access Denied"
whenever I try to update the drivers from "Personalization/Display Settings.

Has anyone else experienced this, or does anyone know to resolve ?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

Is there some reason you are not using the display adapter driver's install
program?

What is your display adapter?

Hi,

Right click the setup.exe file and use 'run as administrator' (even if you
are using an administrator account already).

Upon re-reading your post, I see these are drivers for your MONITOR. Control
Panel > Device Manager > Monitors, right click on the monitor, Properties,
Driver tab, update driver would be the proper place to update your monitor's
"drivers", if there is no setup or install program, not "Personalization/Display
Settings".

Thanks for the very quick response, guys - but I have tried all of the
below/above and am still unable to update my monitor display driver in Vista.
Managed to do so OK with my W2K laptop (I use a KBU for the same monitor),
so am pretty much stumped now.
Monitor is an HP w2207. I have Vista Home Premium, which was (eventually) a
bare install upgrade from XP Media Center. Managed to update my Graphics Card
drivers OK (NVIDIA Geoforce FX5200).

Whenever I use "Run as Administrator", I get back to square 1, even after
the "You must Restart". No drivers are loaded, and display still shows and
Generic-Non PnP.

PS: No option for Monitor in Control Panel > Device Manager > Monitors.

I don't normally post requests for help as I can usually work it out, but
this one (being fairly new to Vista) is really stumping me...

Cheers.

No entry for "Monitors" in Device Manager is indeed very unusual.

And the nVidia Control Panel identifies your monitor as Generic PnP Monitor?

My Device Manager identifies my monitor as a Generic PnP Monitor, but the nVidia
Control Panel correctly identifies both the manufacturer and model number (no
specific monitor drivers have been installed).

PPS: Found the Generic-NonPnP monitor in "Other Devices", but still get
Access Denied when trying to update the monitor driver...

Cheers.

Sorry - Been away.
Yes - tried pretty much everything. Still get the "Access Denied" error even
when logged in as Administrator (and running as administrator). In Safe mode
there is no option listed in Device manager.
I did have to do a clean Vista install after initially upgrading from XP,
though, so perhaps this has screwed a setting or two ??.
Do I need to start from scratch and re-install Vista ?

Appreciate your help and advice so far,

Cheers.

Resolved now...

When I upgraded to Vista (I bought the upgrade option), I selected the
"clean install" option. This moves existing settings (including existing XP
Administrator account settings) to a windows.old folder, and creates a "new"
Administrator account for Vista which has no password, and also no Admin
rights.
Re-installed XP Pro (SP2) from scratch, and then upgraded correctly, all was
OK, and I could install drivers etc.

Still noticed a few problems after upgrade, though. Hangs when clicking on
"Computer", and the occasional Blue Screen when inserting a DVD or CD. Gave
up in the end and upgraded PC...... (Old one was 5 years old, so perhaps
wasn't up to it.).

Thanks for the tips.

C.

PS: Also have a KBU, but this doesn't pass through monitor data, so have to
direct connect as well to setup display setting correctly....
