Hello, I am unable to log onto my MSN Messenger since the security update I
got friday night, I type in my email address and password and click sign in
and it just sits at Signing In. I do not use ZoneAlarm(r) so I don't think
it is the same problem talked about in Anand Blog from oct 11. Thanks

Your spot on with the cause there. I came across the problem and solution
yesterday over at Fanatic Live:
http://www.fanatic.net.nz/2006/10/15...-try-this.html

Jonathan Kay has made a .reg file that should help you with the problem.
Read the post in the link above and hopefully your problems should be fixed
. I am not aware of Microsoft taking any action with this, or what the
security updates did to cause this, hopefully some light will come to this
situation soon.

Please run the attached registry after renaming the file as
wlm_8004882c.reg.

That should fix the sign in problem without any changes to display picture
and emoticons.

Thanks

Same here - not using ZoneAlarm, getting 8004882c once and then messenger is
trying to sign in forever without any error reports. BTW, he was able to
check Live Mail while beeing in not signed in state...

Best regards,
Roman

Many ppl are having this problem. I wonder what the MSN team are doing, how
can this even happened?

Also, changing registry are dangerous.

Get the new Yahoo Messenger, you can see MSN contacts with it too.

It seems they do nothing, at least I do not see a beep from them. Well,
their problem.

I managed to fix the problem using the registry fix mentioned in quite many
places on this forum and reinstalling Messenger:

1. Stop Messenger (right click on it in tray and select "Exit" from the menu.
2. Apply registry modification.
3. Reinstall ("Repair") Messenger.
4. Reboot.

Well, the answer is "yes, it is", and "no, it isn't" - it depends on what
are you modifying. The proposed solution is not dangerous - it is just
removing Live Messenger settings from the registry, so that Messenger has to
recreate them upon start-up. Believe me, it is perfectly safe to do it.

The problem is that ALL companies have problems similar to those we
experience now. For example, few weeks ago I started to have difficulties
logging in to my gmail (Google's mail) account. I could log in from some
other PCs, and couldn't from some other. On top of that I COULD log in to
customized Google homepage (same account!!!), but logging in process was not
smooth. In the end, I guessed that the problem could be related to the fact
that I've got blogger.com (also part of Google) blog set up. I moved to
WordPress and deleted my blogs on blogger.com - voilaz, no problems with
logging in anymore! In addition, this problem with Google was much worse than
Live problem because there is no place at Google you could complain about it
- at least I did not found it. So, just relax - IT world is rather sucking
place nowadays...
