cannot open email

All of a sudden, I cannot open any of my email. I've had not trouble since
August when I got the new laptop (toshiba/vista).
I can launch windows mail and new mail is received, however, when I try to
open any mail, the program stalls and basically just hangs up, then I get the
"not responding" message. I've tried to restart the program several times
with no luck.
What can I do to fix this?

Which antivirus are you running?

I think I've read that Toshiba laptops often come with a program installed
that has SMS in its name, and tends to interfere with Windows Mail. You
might check if you have such a program, and if so, whether it does something
you want enough to leave it installed even if it's causing problems.
