I recently got errors regarding .ini files. When I open an .ini file, it
gives an error that says that "The filename, directory name, or the volume
label syntax in incorrect." Is this a bug? Can you help me?

Hi, Mart.

WHICH .ini file? And how are you trying to open it?

Are you trying to Edit it? With Notepad?

What is the exact command you are using? Or are you using a series of mouse
clicks?

It's possible that the file associations for INI file have been messed
up. If you right-click an INI file, and use Open With, are you able to
open them in Notepad?

If that too fails, then open notepad, and drag and drop the INI file
onto notepad to open it.

When I try opening any .ini files, the error always shows up. I Used the
commands like double-clicking the file and right-click then "open-with
notepad command".

Hi mart,

I had the exact same problems as you and although I'm not sure what
caused it, my fix was to export the following registry keys from a
working machine to the machine with the fault:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\batfile
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\inifile

After exporting these registry keys and importing them into the problem
machine it started working straight away (right-click, edit=no notepad
error)

From what I could tell, the only difference between the problem PC and
the working machine's registry's were that the working one had the
following Binary Value directly beneath it:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xxxfile\EditFlags = 30 04 00 00

I hope this helps...

Kris
